Alaska 2016 | Day 57 | Ford’s Terror

Today is our lazy day…just hanging out in Ford’s Teror all day. By the time I woke up both Airship and the other boat had departed, so we had the place all to ourselves. The weather was overcast but dry…good enough for a tour of the inlet by dinghy.

Notable, the rapids were the worst I’ve seen them so far. I was busy driving the dinghy, so didn’t get any pictures myself, but Peter did. This shot shows the standing waves that extended across the entire entrance. Definitely not a place to be in a cruising boat!

After our tour of the inlet we relaxed on the boat. We spotted both a black bear and a brown bear on shore and took the dinghy in for closer looks. We didn’t get super close, but we did have some decent bear viewing.

This is my last visit to Ford’s Terror for the season. Tomorrow we’ll head out at the morning high water slack, about 6:00 a.m.
